Green Goddess Smoothie

This Green Goddess Smoothie is by far my favorite summer smoothie! It was actually the first smoothie combination that I ever made. It has a fun green color and tastes very refreshing. The green color comes both from spinach and wheatgrass. Wheatgrass has a grassy taste that is balanced out by the sweet flavor of the pineapple and banana. Wheatgrass is rich in nutrients and antioxidants. However, wheatgrass comes from the wheat plant and can contain gluten depending on how it is harvested. It may be best to avoid wheatgrass if you are gluten-free. Furthermore, the wheatgrass should also be skipped if pregnant.

What You’ll Need:

Frozen Banana:  I recommend freezing the banana. When blended, the frozen banana gives the smoothie an ice cream-like taste and texture.

Frozen Pineapple: You will need frozen pineapple chunks for this recipe.

Fresh Spinach: You will need fresh spinach to make this recipe. While I typically prefer adding frozen produce to smoothies, I find that frozen spinach makes this smoothie too icy and not as flavorful.

Almond Butter: Choose a plain almond butter with no added sugar or oil.

Wheatgrass: I use a scoop of wheatgrass in this recipe. Skip the wheatgrass if you need to be gluten-free or are pregnant.

Note: Wheatgrass may not be safe to consume during pregnancy. If pregnant, consult your doctor or registered dietitian to understand which foods are safe for consumption.

Cinnamon: Add cinnamon to taste for some added flavor.

Coconut Water or Almond Milk: You can use either coconut water or unsweetened almond milk in this recipe. Coconut water makes the smoothie taste more refreshing and sweet. Almond milk gives the smoothie a creamier taste.

How to Make Green Goddess Smoothie:

Blend all ingredients until smooth! To make a thicker smoothie, add less almond milk or coconut water. To make a thinner smoothie, add more almond milk or coconut water.
