Banana Cacao Smoothie Bowl

You will think you are having dessert for breakfast with this Banana Cacao Smoothie Bowl! This smoothie bowl makes the perfect healthy breakfast or dessert. It tastes like and has the consistency of chocolate frozen yogurt, but is loaded with fruits, veggies, and healthy fats. The recipe is gluten free and dairy free and can be made in less than 3 minutes! All you have to do is blend the ingredients and enjoy! It is perfect for a quick and easy healthy breakfast on the go.

Note: This recipe is labeled as vegan, but is topped with bee pollen (optional). If you are trying to follow a vegan diet, you may want to skip the bee pollen topping.

 

So how does this smoothie bowl taste like chocolate frozen yogurt?

 

Fruits and Veggies:

The main  ingredients in this smoothie bowl are frozen bananas and frozen riced cauliflower. Frozen bananas taste amazing in smoothies! They add the perfect amount of sweetness and really make the smoothie taste like ice cream. I definitely recommend freezing banana slices vs. adding raw bananas and ice. Frozen bananas give the smoothie bowl a much better flavor and consistency. The frozen riced cauliflower gives the smoothie a creamy texture without adding any flavor! That’s right, you get all of the benefits of eating this cruciferous veggie, without even tasting it. Frozen riced cauliflower makes the smoothie thick and creamy, giving it the perfect consistency.

 

Cacao Powder

The cacao powder is responsible for the chocolately flavor of this smoothie bowl. Let’s get one thing straight- cacao is not the same as cocoa. While cacao and cocoa both come from the same place, the way they are processed impacts their nutritional content. Cacao products are generally less processed and a healthier alternative to cocoa. Cacao powder has a rich chocolatey taste but is full of minerals and can have antioxidant effects. It does taste bitter by itself so the frozen banana is key to balancing it out with the right amount of sweetness to make it taste like a treat.

 

Protein & Healthy Fat

This recipe contains a collagen peptides and nut butter or avocado to add protein and healthy fat to this smoothie bowl. Protein and healthy fat help make you feel satisfied.

 

Other:

Almond milk is the liquid used to blend this smoothie together. If the smoothie is not sweet enough for you, it is optional to sweeten it further with the addition of medoolan dates. I like topping this smoothie bowl with cacao nibs and bee pollen to add the perfect amount of crunch.

Ingredients:

1 frozen banana

1 cup frozen riced cauliflower

1 1/2 tbsp cacao powder

1 scoop of collagen peptides

1 scoop of nut butter or 1/4 avocado

Cinnamon to taste

About 1 1/2 cups almond milk or add until you get the right consistency

Optional: 2 fresh medoolan dates for added sweetness

Toppings: cacao nibs and honey bee pollen

 

Directions:

Blend until smooth and top with smoothie toppings!
